Porsche Adds Vehicle Controls to Apple CarPlay

GM may be dropping Apple CarPlay from its cars, but Porsche is doubling down. The German automaker has added features from its own My Porsche app to Apple’s ubiquitous car-smartphone integration system.
Apple CarPlay is an app found in most 2023 and 2024 vehicles that lets the car’s display screen mirror your phone’s. It gives drivers access to apps that are relatively safe to use while driving, such as navigation and streaming music. The apps get simplified touchscreen interfaces on the car’s screen. Drivers can also control phone apps through voice commands with CarPlay.

My Porsche is an app that lets drivers control vehicle settings like climate control and ambient lighting. It will now integrate into CarPlay, letting drivers use the same voice commands for both. “These functions include adjusting audio settings such as sound profiles, changing radio stations, adjusting settings for climate control and ambient lighting,” Porsche says.
Drivers will have access to the settings through the touchscreen within CarPlay, so they don’t have to page out of one app and into another to make changes. They can also use simple voice commands like, “Hey, Siri, set the cabin temperature to 72 degrees.”
“Activating this new Porsche experience is fast and straightforward by scanning a QR code” on the car’s touchscreen, Porsche says.
The updated app integration is already available in the new 2024 Porsche Cayenne, the company says. “After that, it will be rolled out to other model lines.”
